Lead Better HQ vs. Mailchimp
Mailchimp is a great newsletter tool, and it's one of the 11 apps in Practice Better's Connector Hub. Here's where it fits a health practice and where it stops.
Nicole Harlow
Mailchimp is probably the first email tool you ever used. It's familiar, the free plan is generous for a small list and Practice Better's new Connector Hub even connects to it.
So why would a health practice need anything else? Because a newsletter and a patient journey are two different jobs.
The quick answer
Keep Mailchimp if you mainly send a monthly newsletter, your list is general interest and you keep health details out of it. Pair it with Practice Better's Connector Hub and you've got a tidy setup.
Choose Lead Better HQ if you want email to respond to what's actually happening with each person: a new inquiry, a missed appointment, a finished program, someone who hasn't rebooked. All inside one HIPAA-compliant system.

Where Mailchimp shines
Mailchimp is easy, polished and affordable for a small list. The templates are lovely, the free plan lets you start without a credit card and the AI tools help you write faster.
It's also one of the 11 apps in Practice Better's Connector Hub. If you're on Practice Better Plus or Team, you can add new clients to a Mailchimp audience automatically, which is a great upgrade from copy-paste (our Connector Hub guide has the details). What a health practice runs into
HIPAA is on you. Mailchimp doesn't offer a BAA. Its terms say members are responsible for deciding whether the service meets obligations under regulations like HIPAA, and its acceptable use policy bans uploading regulated sensitive personal information. A general newsletter is usually fine. "Here's your next step for your thyroid program" is a different story.
A newsletter tool doesn't know what's happening in your practice. Mailchimp can send a welcome email. It doesn't know that someone missed her appointment yesterday, or finished her program in May, or booked a discovery call and never booked again.
Automation tops out fast on the lower plans. Essentials allows flows up to 4 steps. A real patient journey usually needs more.
What Lead Better HQ does differently
Lead Better HQ is the operational layer around your Practice Better account, HIPAA compliant with a BAA included. Email is one piece of it, alongside text, Instagram and Facebook DMs, forms and your pipeline.
Because it's connected to Practice Better through Lead Better Connector, messages can respond to what happens in your practice: layered reminders, a path back for past patients and follow-up that doesn't depend on anyone remembering. You can still send a beautiful monthly newsletter too.
Curious what's slipping between your tools? We'll go through your business the way a new patient does and send you a short video of what we find.
Lead Better HQ is an independent company and an official Practice Better partner. HIPAA details come from Mailchimp's own website as of October 2026 and aren't legal advice.

Lead Better HQ vs. HoneyBook or Dubsado
HoneyBook and Dubsado are wonderful for proposals, contracts and invoices. Both also say plainly that they aren't HIPAA compliant. Here's what that means for your practice.
Lead Better HQ vs. Kit (formerly ConvertKit)
Kit is built for creators, and it's excellent at it. If your practice grew out of a newsletter and a podcast, here's when it's time for a system built around your patients instead.
