Practice Better vs. Jane App
Jane and Practice Better are both excellent. They're just built for different kinds of care. Here's how to tell which one fits the way you actually practice.

You've got two tabs open. One says Jane. One says Practice Better. Both have lovely websites, both promise to save you hours and both have a friend of yours swearing by them.
Here's the thing nobody says out loud: they're built for different kinds of care. Pick the one that matches how you practice and everything gets easier. Pick the other and you spend two years working around it.
The quick answer
Choose Practice Better if your care runs on programs, protocols and long-term client relationships. Functional medicine, nutrition, health coaching, naturopathic practices built around packages and ongoing support.
Choose Jane if your business runs on appointments, rooms and treatment tables. Physio, chiro, massage, acupuncture and multidisciplinary clinics, especially if you bill insurance in Canada.

Where Jane shines
Jane is beautifully built for clinics where the appointment is the unit of care. Room and resource scheduling, self check-in, waitlists and return-visit reminders all live on the Thrive plan. If you run a multidisciplinary clinic with three treatment rooms and a front desk, Jane understands your day.
It's also very strong for Canadian insurance. Jane's guide documents integrations with TELUS eClaims, Teleplan, WorkSafeBC, ICBC and others. And Jane stores data by region, with Canadian data hosted in Canada (Jane security FAQ).
Where Practice Better shines
Practice Better was built for practitioners whose care doesn't fit in a 50-minute box. Programs and courses, protocols, client journaling, group sessions... it's designed for the relationship between visits, not just the visit.
It's excellent for functional and integrative practices running 3- or 6-month packages. Lab and supplement workflows are right there with Fullscript and Rupa Health. And the client portal makes it easy to share notes, resources and check-ins as care moves along.
It's our platform of choice, and we've built in a lot of these accounts.
What we see in real accounts
The practices that struggle usually picked the platform for one feature and ignored their care model.
A nutrition practice picks Jane because a friend's physio clinic loves it, then rebuilds programs by hand every week. A chiro clinic picks Practice Better and wonders why room scheduling feels like a workaround. Neither platform is wrong. The fit is.
If you're already leaning toward Practice Better, our guide to switching to Practice Better from Jane or another EHR covers what transfers and what you'll rebuild.
The gap neither one fills
Both are excellent EHRs. Neither one was built to run everything around the practice management: the inquiry that comes in at 9pm, the follow-up after a first call, the past patient who drifted off in April. That's where Lead Better HQ comes in.
That's a different category, and it's where Lead Better HQ comes in. We build the operational layer around your Practice Better account and connect the two through Lead Better Connector.
Already on Practice Better and wondering what's falling through the cracks? We'll go through your business the way a new patient does and send you a short video of what we find.
Lead Better HQ is an independent company and an official Practice Better partner. We're a Practice Better affiliate, which means we may earn a commission if you sign up through our links. It never changes your price or what we recommend.
Common questions
Is Practice Better or Jane cheaper?
Practice Better starts lower ($35/mo vs. $59/mo), but the right comparison depends on client count and add-ons. A solo practitioner with 200 clients would compare Practice Better Professional ($69) to Jane Practice ($79).
Does Jane have a free trial?
No. Jane offers a demo account instead. Practice Better offers a 14-day trial, or 30 days on the Team plan.
Which is better for programs and packages?
Practice Better. Programs and courses are core to how it's built. Jane supports packages and memberships on its Thrive plan.
Which handles insurance better?
For Canadian insured visits, Jane has the deeper set of integrations. Practice Better supports superbills and CMS-1500 forms, with claims through Claim.MD for US practitioners.

Lead Better HQ vs. HoneyBook or Dubsado
HoneyBook and Dubsado are wonderful for proposals, contracts and invoices. Both also say plainly that they aren't HIPAA compliant. Here's what that means for your practice.
Lead Better HQ vs. Kit (formerly ConvertKit)
Kit is built for creators, and it's excellent at it. If your practice grew out of a newsletter and a podcast, here's when it's time for a system built around your patients instead.
